We employ the following state-of-the-art tools:
As important as all the technology we offer is the comfort level in our office. Our warm, friendly staff has personal touch that’s essential because our job involves invading our patients’ personal space.
VELscope
Buffalo Dental Group is proud to announce that we have incorporated the VELscope® System into our dental practice.
The VELscope System, recently approved by the FDA, was developed by the British Columbia Cancer Agency and Vancouver-based LED Dental Inc. It is a revolutionary hand-held device that provides dentists and hygienists with a new tool to aid in the early detection of oral cancer. The VELscope examination is a non-invasive, painless procedure which takes only a few minutes. The dentist shines a blue light into the mouth to cause it to fluoresce. This fluorescence helps the dentist visualize abnormal tissue which may be, or may lead to, oral cancer.
Over 30,000 people are diagnosed with oral cancer annually in the United States. With a mortality rate of over 50% at 5 years, one person every hour of every day dies of oral cancer in America. If detected early however, oral cancer is 90% survivable. Dr. Bernard Kolber of Buffalo Dental Group states: “We’ve always conducted an annual comprehensive oral cancer screening for all of our patients, but the VELscope System will allow us to see things we’ve been unable to see previously. By detecting potential problems earlier, we’ll be providing our patients with the best oral health care currently available”.
WATERLASE MD LASER
Traditional dental drills can cause hairline cracks in teeth. Waterlase’s patented Hydrophotonic technology combines the use of a laser with the flow of water to achieve precision with low-level discomfort. Fewer shots and less anesthesia are required with Waterlase, greatly easing anxiety and pain and enabling us to perform cavity preps in all areas of the mouth in just one visit. Hours of post-operative numbness and drooling are also eliminated.
The precision focus of Waterlase’s laser technology also allows us to remove damaged tooth and gum tissue while leaving more of the surrounding healthy tissue untouched. Due to a conservative, gentle cutting action and coagulating capabilities, the Waterlase performs many of the soft tissue (gum) procedures with little or no bleeding and less postoperative swelling. This technology also gives us the ability to perform many procedures that we previously would have referred out to specialists.
CEREC
A CEREC tooth restoration isn't just convenient, it is also healthy. Many years ago, dentists had few options to repair decayed and damaged teeth other than amalgam, gold, and other metals. With CEREC, your dentist can use strong, tooth colored ceramic materials to restore your teeth to their natural strength, beauty, and function. These materials closely match the composition of natural tooth structure. This means when you eat hot food and then drink something cold, the restoration and tooth expand and contract at almost equal rates. So, your tooth does not crack, and you can go on enjoying your evening. Also, the materials are chemically bonded to your tooth, so your dentist can save as much healthy tooth tissue as possible while providing you with a dental restoration that strengthens your tooth.
This device provides same-day, natural-looking crowns, onlays, and veneers. No temporaries or impressions are necessary. No multiple visits to our office, either.

AIR ABRASION
For certain small cavities, Air Abrasion can mean NO needles and NO drills. It is a relatively new technology in dentistry. A high powered stream of air, with powder, cleans decay from small cavities on the chewing surfaces of back teeth, allowing a white filling to be bonded in place. In the right circumstances it is quick, painless and conserves tooth structure.
The amount of drilling we do is drastically reduced, thanks to this tool.

DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHIES
This ensures that your X-rays are performed with minimal levels of radiation.
INTRAORAL CAMERAS
Intraoral cameras project an image from inside your mouth to a monitor for us to review. We’ll show you where problems exist so you can fully understand our treatment plan.
CAESY EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
CAESY provides a wealth of information on countless dental conditions, procedures, and technological developments via the Internet. Education is important for our staff, but it’s important for patients, too. We hope you’ll take advantage of CAESY.
Is your mouth made in China?
Right now in the Buffalo market, laboratory brokers are busy wooing dentists with dental restorations from offshore locations like China, Mexico, and the Philippines.
Dr. Kolber and Dr. Vossler ONLY use neighborhood labs that we have a close relationship with. Many times the lab technicians come to our office to work with us on patient cases.
The facts:
- No regulation requires offshore labs to label where a dental restoration was made.
- Your dentist is not required to disclose if an offshore lab is used, and most patients will see no difference in their cost.
- The FDA only regulates offshore labs as authorized importers, not their content or the infection-control standards used in fabrication.
- Many offshore labs advertise ISO 9001 certification to perspective dentists to infer higher quality. In reality, ISO 9001 is a procedural standard and does not guarantee a quality product.
- Distance and language barriers seriously impact the opportunity for dentists and laboratory technicians to discuss the needs of the patient and restoration design.
- Many well-trained technicians live and work right here in Western New York serving the Buffalo dental community. The doctors at Buffalo Dental Group insist on hometown quality for our patients.
